3 teeth!

Buggy has 3 teeth that have popped through within the past 2 weeks! So excited :) She's 9 months old now.... she still can't crawl, which I'm trying really hard not to be discouraged about, but she's definitely trying! I can't believe how fast time goes with her... in less than 3 months we'll be celebrating her first birthday :). On a different note, I'll be moving back home for a little while since AJ will be going to corpsman school in Texas. I have mixed feelings about it... Being around my parents and all our other family will be such a great thing for Bailey, and for me. It will be so nice to be able to spend more than one rushed week with them. But, this also means AJ will miss all of her firsts, which it was sucks/hurts the most... plus I'll miss him like crazy! Just thankful to God that he's not deployed and just going to be a phonecall/skype away from us :). I am pretty excited about moving into a house instead of an apartment! We're going from a cramped one bedroom apartment, with rude management, into my friends 3 bedroom 1 1/2 bath house with a yard and everything! Wahoo :) Well I guess just a quick update... I've wanted to but just haven't really felt like posting anything lately. Once again, I hope to update more :)

8 pounds...

So I just wrote a blog and when I clicked "publish post" it said there was conflicting edits and to hit my back button... and it was all gone! Haha... so, here I go again...

Bug is 7 months as of June 5th! I finally took the initiative and stuck with it this time and I've lost 8 pounds! Still have another 35 to go to be at the weight I was when we got married (June 29, 2009). But, I'd settle for less at this point. I felt stuck. I would get motivated and then feel like it was too hard, so I'd give up. I felt like such a failure, but I'd never had to work so hard in my life at losing/keeping weight down. I don't have many friends down here and I miss my family a lot and I would just get in these slums... I've limited my calories to 1,200/day and been trying to work out 4 days a week... it took a while, but my metabolism finally adjusted and now I've been losing about 1 pound/3 days :) I still have another 17.5 weeks to go to get to 131 lbs but my goal right now is just another 30 pounds to put me at 138! Let's see if I can do this!

As I said, Bug's 7 months old now! She says "mama" "mama mom-mom" all of the time now! I am so proud of her :) I haven't really taken any pictures yet, but when I do I'll be sure to post them. I recently made a tumblr, it's kind of like blogspot but it's easier to just post pictures by themself. I'm going to use it to post fun pictures, videos, and quotes I like that don't really have to do directly with my life :) So, you should check it out!

Once again, I'll try to post more... I think about it a lot, but just don't feel like I have much to say. Thanks for reading!

Been A While... As Usual!

So, I've decided as much as I would love to update this blog daily, or maybe even every couple days - it probably won't happen. April was a pretty good month... Aj's mom, one of this brothers, his three sisters and a boyfriend all came down to visit us for a week! On April 26th-28th we went to Disneyland. It was a lot of fun!! We lost our camera somehow on the our second day there, and thanks to God and a good person out there, we got it back from lost and found within 24hrs! Total miracle and praise report right there :) Oh, we also went to California Adventure for the first time and we all had a blast! Even Bug got to go on a few rides between the two parks and meet three Disney Princesses!

And! Bug turned 6 months old on May 5th! I can't believe she's already over half of a year old, sooo crazy. She's such an amazing blessing and her laughter is the most beautiful sound I've ever heard. We are so proud of her little one, as dad affectionately calls her :)
Hopefully I'll post more later...

Passover Seder & Good Deals

Monday the 18th was Passover. I printed a Messianic Passover Haggadah @JewishJewels.org and my husband and I attempted to the best of our ability to celebrate with a Seder. I had been to a Passover Seder two years ago with my parents at our church, but this was Aj's first! I think we're going to do it again next year too :)

Today was a great day! We got up and walked to Subway (only about 3/4 of a mile total) and used these coupons we got in the ads we get every week... we both got a yummy 6" breakfast sandwich and a Minutemaid Orange Juice for $1.90 each (the price of the drink with tax included)! Then we took our dog Wilbur to the dog beach - she loves that place! Here's a picture of her on the way home, she was so exhausted!

And... I did some coupon printing/clipping and we went to Walmart (and to CVS, but they were temporarily out of what I wanted). I had a $1 OFF coupon for any sized Reach Dental Floss and Walmart carries them for only $.88 so I actually "made us" $.12. That twelve cents felt amazing, because I had actually been "paid" to take the floss. I know, I know.. I sound like a nut! But it was fun :)
1. Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn Learning Puppy, it was on sale at Walmart for $15 and I printed a $5 off coupon so it was only $10! Originally $20, and it's an awesome toy!
2.  Blue Garanimals Shirt (12 months) was only $3.50 - cheap brand, but it's so cute, I love elephants :)
3. NYC Nail polish in Bowery Black - under $2 (I've been wanting this charcoal black color, and this one works great but was super inexpensive)
4. Reach Dental Floss - $.88 + $1 OFF coupon = FREE + we made $.12 :)
5. L'Oreal Paris Voluminous Carbon Black Mascara was $5.84 - my $2 OFF coupon = $3.84 - and so far, this has been my favorite mascara ever!

I realize the above are all real simple and even little savings, but I did feel like I'd accomplished something :) and I'm trying this new thing where I really think about the fact that even $.75 off coupons add up monthly, and if you learn how to use coupons, you can save way more! I recommend going to @CouponMom.com and @Coupons.com to get started - you can get & print coupons for free!

Skype

I just want to say... Thank God for Skype! I LOVE talking to my parents... pretty much daily, on Skype! Sometimes my Dad and I will just sit on Skype for hours "hanging out". My dad is constantly taking screen caps of all of the cute or funny things Bug does. Recently he starting sending them to me...
Hope everyone had a blessed weekend!

Wow...

Once again it's been a week without me blogging. I think about it most days, but for  some reason I just don't sit down and do it. I had a pretty good weekend, my husband had duty both days until 3:30pm but it actually goes by pretty fast. Bug watched Peter Pan (with me of course) on Saturday for the first time, it's one of my favorites so it was fun to watch her interact with it! I also skyped with my dad last night for 3 hours, it was nice just "hanging out", because that's pretty much what we were doing. I miss my family a lot and I can't wait to see them when we go home and visit in June! We're also going to Idaho in June for Bailey to meet her Great Grandparents, Great Aunts, Great Uncles, and second cousins. Wahoo! Our family will be here in just shy of 2 weeks and then we're headed to Disneyland... We're definitely getting pretty excited and I feel so blessed that we're able to go. I also caught up with an old friend on Skype IMing, she's a sweet girl and it had been a little while since we had talked... Hopefully we can keep in touch a little better.  Here's a picture of Bug today, she looks so much like her dad... but a cute little girl version! Hehe :)
She's 5 months old now (as of the 5th) so I'll post some pictures I took so far this month tomorrow.. :)

Lazy Sunday...

Today I didn't do a whole lot. Bug and I watched the Disney Channel (she loves anything on TV) and we played, which consists mainly of her doing "squats" because she just learned how, and blowing bubbles! We skyped with Grandma & Grandpa for a while, catching up as we do most days... Buggy's pretty entertaining! When dad got home from watch he played with the Bug while I finally got to finish some cleaning and laundry, wahoo! I was pretty behind on laundry... usually am because I tend to wash it, fold it and then leave it sitting on the kitchen table haha! Here's a picture of Bug when she finally took a nap (she wouldn't fall asleep in her crib), I think she had a tummy ache or something because she was pretty fussy today and would only sleep in the living room with me :)
And also, I'm a day early, but I want to make sure I blog it while I'm thinking about it because I've been pretty bad at updating this thing... Her birthday's tomorrow but, HAPPY BIRTHDAY 22nd KATIE! You're one of my best friends and I think you're an amazing mom to your sweet little girl. I'm so glad we're both in California at the same time - wahoo! Anyway, our dad's were friends since ages 15 and 18, and now we're friends, so we think it's pretty special :)
Hope everyone had a wonderful, relaxing Sunday!

Way overdue...

So since I started this picture challenge (and kind of failed miserably) I thought I should finish it... lol! And, Bug can now blow raspberries... she holds her feet all of the time and loves eating baby food! She's growing up so fast - we took her to SeaWorld on March 24 and she did great all day, and loved all of the shows! My mom-in-law and brothers/sisters-in-law are coming down to visit fro a week and we're going to Disneyland 4/26-4/28 and we're super excited! If I think of anything else I'll add it later - once again going to try to update this thing more often :) thanks for reading!!

Vanilla Chocolate Chip Cookies & Zuppa Toscana.

Okay! So the other day I made vanilla chocolate chip cupcakes... my hubby said they were the best cupcake he's ever had! I didn't come up with the recipe myself, but it still made me suuupper duper happy :)
Vanilla Chocolate Chip Cupcakes
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
1/2 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3/4 cup milk
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Directions:
1.Preheat oven to 350°F Line a muffin pan with paper liners.
2. In a small bowl, mix together flour, baking powder and salt.
3. In a large bowl, using an electric mixer, beat together sugar and butter until well combined. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in vanilla extract. Alternately beat in flour mixture and milk, making three additions of flour mixture and two of milk, beating until smooth. Stir in chocolate chips.
4. Scoop batter into prepared pan. Bake in preheated oven for 23 to 28 minutes or until golden and tops of cupcakes spring back when lightly touched. Let cool in pan on rack for 10 minutes. Remove from pan and let cool completely on rack.
5. Top cooled cupcakes with favorite frosting.

Bailey's been sleeping in her crib for most of the night ( I bring her in bed with us in the middle of the night for a few hrs and then back into the crib around 6:30 or 7am for another couple hrs) for the past few nights! She started by taking naps in there, and now she always naps in there and actually seems to like it.. wahoo!
For dinner tonight I made a copy-cat version of my husband's favorite soup: Zuppa Toscana from Olive Garden! I got the idea from my lovely fried Brie (click her name to got to her awesome blog!), but used a slightly different recipe... I also cut it in half, but I'm posting the original recipe. I also used spicy italian turkey sausage and turkey bacon, and red potatoes instead of what's listed below :)

Olive Garden Zuppa Toscana
Ingredients (from here):
1 lb. Italian Sausage
2 large Russet Baking Potatoes sliced in half, and then in 1/4 inch slices
1 large Onion, chopped
1/2 can. Real Bacon bits
2 cloves garlic minced
2 C. Kale
2 (14.5 ounce) cans Chicken Broth
1 qt. Water
1 C. Heavy Whipping Cream

Directions (from here):
1. Saute Italian sausage and crushed red pepper in a large pot. Drain excess fat, refrigerate while you prepare other ingredients.
2. In the same pan, saute bacon, onions and garlic over low-medium heat for approximately 15 mins. or until the onions are soft.
3. Add chicken bouillon and water to the pot and heat until it starts to boil.
4. Add the sliced potatoes and cook until soft, about half an hour.
5. Add the heavy cream and just cook until thoroughly heated.
6. Stir in the sausage and the kale, let all heat through and serve.

My "Chicken Artichoke Heart Spinach Pizza Pocket"

I'm pretty bad at blogging every day, I've already said that a couple times I'm sure :) So, since my last post Bailey had her 4 month appointment and she is still in about the 50th percentile for both height and length. She was 14lbs 4 oz and 24 1/2 inches long! Doctor suggested starting to feed her baby oatmeal mixed with baby prunes every other day... so we did that night (03-08-2011) and she loved it! We also got her ears pierced on 03-09-2011... I was kind of traumatized for a bit haha but they look cute and she doesn't even know they're there so it turned out fine :) Last night for dinner I tried to make a kind of pizza pocket thing with crescent rolls. I'll post below the "recipe" but I didn't use exact measurements, so I'll just put what I used and if you like the idea you can try something similar :) Oh, I also decided to post days 7-12 in one picture!
7. Most treasured: my family; husband, daughter, parents, brother, uncles, aunts, cousins, etc... 8. A picture that makes me laugh: Darth Sidious and the Pope haha! 9. A picture of someone who has gotten me through the most: My parents, and now for the past couple years my husband! 10. Someone who I've done the most messed up stuff with: my best friend Nicole, haha! 11. Something I hate: first thing that came to mind was brussel sprouts lol 12. Something I love: elephants - they're so beautiful!

My "Chicken Artichoke Heart Spinach Pizza Pocket"
Ingredients & estimations:
1 chicken breast, boneless and skinless
olive oil
1/4 of a big red onion
about 2 tbsp minced garlic
handful of baby spinach leaves
about 5 artichoke heart chunks (I used Kirkland's)
at least 1 cup of cheese (I used mozzarella and a little cheddar)
about 2 tbsp of ranch dressing (I used Hidden Valley)
salt, pepper & Italian seasoning to taste
1 can of Pillsbury Crescent Rolls

- Cut chicken breast into cubes and put in frying pan with a little bit of olive oil.
- Chop onion into little wedges, and add that plus the minced garlic to the frying pan.
- While chicken, onions and garlic are cooking chop up the artichoke hearts into smaller pieces and place in a small mixing bowl.
- Grate cheese and add to bowl.
- Add Ranch, salt, pepper & seasonings to bowl and mix it all together.
- Add spinach leaves to the frying pan right before the chicken is done.
- Once cooked, add the chicken mixture to the mixing bowl and stir all ingredients together.
- Roll the crescent roll dough into 2 circles, flatten them out as much as you can.
- Add mixture to half of the dough and fold the other half over top of it - it'll look like a half circle.
- Put the "pizza pockets" on greased cookie sheet and bake in oven on 350 for about 20 minutes - the dough will start to brown.

Okay - I hope my instructions weren't too hard to understand! Any questions please just leave me a comment, and please leave one if you try this (or something similar) out!

Thanks for reading :)

30 day picture challenge...

... 6 days late! A lot of my friends have been doing this on facebook, but I decided to blog it instead :)
Day One:
1. I'm 22 years old.
2. I married my best friend on 6/29/2009.
3. My baby girl was born in November 2010.
4. I have a dog named Wilbur, she's half Jack Russell/half Yorkshire.
5. I love the color green!
6. NCIS is my favorite show :)
7. I lived in Florida for over 6 months.
8. I have one younger brother.
9. My parents have been married for 22 years.
10. I'm a Christian, non-denominational.

Day Two: Katrina! We've been best friends since she was 9 and I was 8. We grew up next door to each other, and no matter how much time between us talking we always start back where we left off. She's in the Army & is currently stationed in Afghanistan, and I miss her a ton! :( This was us in June 2009.

Day Three: NCIS is my favorite show!

Day Four: My favorite night: The night Bailey Grace was born! November 5, 2010 @ 6:34 p.m.

Day Five: This is from my first year going on the family houseboat trip... It's one of my favorite memories and since we never had a real wedding, I thought I would use this one! It was a couple weeks before we got married, we were so happy and excited and it was so much fun! June 2009.

Day Six: If I could trade places with someone for the day it would be Cote de Pablo... I didn't think too hard about this one, just thought I should pick someone from NCIS haha. She plays Ziva David, so I think it'd be awesome to get to go to the set :)

One Third of the Year Old...

Some of Bailey's 4 months old pictures! She's been teething pretty bad today, and was pretty fussy most of the day so I'm going to try to get some more tomorrow.

Toys!

Today Bailey got a "Bounce Bounce Baby"! It's pretty cute, and she seems to like it so far :) She's a tiny bit too short though, her feet don't lay quite as flat as they're supposed to so she probably won't use it all the time just yet... But, she LOVES standing or sitting and we figured it was time to get one. If you couldn't tell, I'm pretty excite!! I'll have to add a picture tomorrow... She also got a little Dumbo stuffed animal - she's so sweet sleeping right now so I thought I'd share a pic (Mom's a little elephant crazy for those of you who couldn't tell haha).
Aunt Cami left today... she was here Wednesday - Friday. We had a lot of fun! Didn't do a whole lot, but it was good to see her and for Bailey to finally meet her :) We had a nice walk at the beach yesterday, Bailey hadn't been to that beach since she was about 2 weeks old with Savta (Grandma)! Today is also my cousin Sarah's birthday :) I miss her a ton and am sad I couldn't be there with her today... We had a lot of fun growing up together making up various creative (but kind of crazy) games haha. Tonight for dinner I made spaghetti with hot Italian sausage - Aj's favorite kind lol. It was yummy & I was happy to see him getting seconds... really wasn't a specific recipe, but it was: tomato sauce, hot Italian sausage, onions, garlic, mushrooms, bell pepper, and olives, and a few different seasonings on wheat noodles with Texas Toast (also one of Aj's favorites).

^ At Sarah's wedding :)
Really need to keep up with this blogging thing... Bailey's 4 months old tomorrow! I can't believe how fast time has flown by :( She's already 1/3 of a year old - so crazy! I am sad that I will never have these moments back with her, but even more excited about her growing up and our future together. I'll take some pictures of her tomorrow and hopefully post them too!
Thanks for reading :)

Saturday, February 26, 2011

Oh, Saturdays!

Today, I started on my apron! I wasn't able to finish it because my poor little baby is teething and was pretty fussy on and off today. I did get quite a bit done though, so I'm pretty excited :) I haven't used a sewing machine in a while, and it turned out to be a little harder than I thought it would be, but not bad and I know I'll get better with practice!

Tonight for dinner I made Orange Teriyaki Chicken, Brown Rice & Broccoli. I had leftover homemade teriyaki sauce that I wanted to use, so I just put it in a saucepan, heated it up and mixed in orange juice and orange zest. It actually turned out pretty good and the hubby liked it, so I guess that's all the matters :) I also surprised him with chocolate chip cookies (I had some frozen cookie dough from Valentine's Day) when he got home from his work-out. He asked me if I was super-wife which made my night because I honestly don't feel like it at all!
Here's the recipe I used for the teriyaki sauce: Teriyaki Sauce Recipe.

Lunch: pita bread drissled with extra virgin olive oil and sprinkled with salt, pepper & other seasonings, broiled in the oven to make it toasty. avocado cilantro hummus and tabouli salad (both from Baba Foods) and a cut up artichoke heart chunk - so good!!

For some reason, I thought of the below recipe tonight while making the cookies. My friend Brie showed it to me/made them when I was younger, and they were fun and tasty! It's No Bake Peanut Butter Oatmeal Cookies! This is a recipe I found online, I think I might make these tomorrow...
2 c. sugar
1 stick butter
1/2 c. milk
3 c. quick oatmeal
3/4 c. peanut butter
Heat sugar, butter and milk to a boil in a medium saucepan. Boil for about 1 1/2 minutes. Remove from heat & stir in the peanut butter & oatmeal. Scoop into balls and place on a cookie sheet to cool :)

My Very Own Sewing Machine...

I have a wonderful amazing husband! He bought me my first sewing machine today... My friend Kate has been quilting a lot lately and I'd be wanting a sewing machine and watching her on our visit just pushed me over "the edge" I had to have one lol! My husband is very sweet and understanding and knows how much staying busy means to be right now so he took me after work to get one :) He had said he wanted to surprise me with it by stopping by & picking it up after work but he was in his cami's and is not allowed to go to stores and  things in them. Isn't that so sweet?
^ It has little decorative panels that switch out too... already started laying out an apron (my first apron) that I'm going to try to sew together tomorrow. Woot!

We also got some fabric to finish the wall art I started! I saw the idea on The Nate Berkus Show... You just buy a canvas, whichever size you want and then pick out a fabric to cover it. Cut it long enough to wrap around the back and hot glue it a little bit & then staple it (kind of like the canvas already is). Super simple & super cute.. Can't wait to hang it long-ways over the couch! (Love that show btw) :)

My amazing husband also took us to Yogurtland tonight - so yummy! Broke my "diet" but it was fat-free... bahaha! And below is a picture of me and Bailey hanging out earlier...
Thanks for reading...

I love Mushrooms!

Okay, I'm terrribblleee at blogging, but I'm hoping to get better! This last weekend (Sunday-Tuesday) we went and visited one of my good friends Kate, her husband Kerry and little baby girl Irelynn Edith Rose :) It was a lot of fun and I'm glad we got to see them again! Her husband's in the AirForce and they're from MN, so growing up we only saw each other a few times, but now we're only about a 4 hour drive away since they're also stationed in CA. Our dad's were best friends since Mike (Kate's dad) was 18 and my dad Robert was 15! It's pretty awesome, or at least we think so, that Kate and I get along so well and really enjoy each other! Anyway, Bailey stopped sleeping 6-8hrs at a time after about 10 days :(. She's doing a little better now, maybe only 4hrs at a time at the most... but hey! better than maybe 2hrs. I've been cooking up a storm! Made homemade teriyaki sauce, and pancakes from scratch - both for the first time this week, so I'm pretty excited about that! I'm going to try to post some of my favorite, or recent recipes used, and even some of my own (as I make them up hehe). Tonight for dinner we had artichoke heart stuffed mushrooms and a red alfredo sauce over chicken... very yummy! Here's the mushroom recipe ...

Makes 6 servings or 12 stuffed mushrooms!

Ingredients:

1-1/2 teaspoons olive oil
1/2 onion, chopped
12 mushrooms, stems removed and chopped
salt and ground black pepper to taste
1/2 (12 ounce) jar marinated artichoke hearts, drained and chopped
1/2 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1 tablespoon sour cream
1/2 cup shredded Italian cheese blend
1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese
1/4 teaspoon garlic salt, or to taste

Directions:
  1. Preheat oven to 350.
  2. Grease cookie sheet and rub mushroom cups with olive oil.
  3. Cook onions and mushroom stems in olive oil in a frying pan over medium heat, add salt & pepper to taste.
  4. Add the rest of the ingredients to a mixing bowl, and when onions are translucent (cooked) add them and the mushroom stems into the bowl and stir it together.
  5. Spoon the mixture into the mushrooms & place them on the cookie sheet.
  6. Cook for about 20 minutes, or until the "stuffing" is bubbly!

I also made a bow holder (& bow) for my friend Jen's baby girl Sophia - her due date is April 1st! I love crafting - it's sooo much fun! If anyone's interested in how I made it please let me know...

Thanks for stopping by!

Bailey holding her bottle, passing out! lol!

3 months old!

So, I'm a little late.. but, here are some of Bailey's 3 month photos!
We're back up north visiting for a few days. So glad to see family again, bummed it's such a short visit! It was a long drive, but worth it to see how happy the grandparents are to see their sweet baby again! Not much to say.. will start up some more crafts when I get back home. In the mean time check out 65redroses.com :)
Have a great night!

First Post...

... So this is my very first blog! Okay, first I'll explain where I got the title "Words of Love". I'm a huge Beatles fan! I couldn't think of a name so I decided to use a song title or lyrics, "Words of Love" is a Buddy Holly song the Beatles covered and I thought it would be perfect for a blog - words & love :) I'm pretty excited, but not exactly sure what I'm going to blog about. I'm hoping to post pictures and things that happen in my daughter's (Bailey) life because my husband is currently stationed away from home while he's in the Navy. I think I'll also post any fun or interesting crafts I come up with or find, including bows I make :) And maybe even some yummy recipes! Not too sure how to customize this thing, but I'll work on it! Recently, February 1st, Bailey started sleeping 6-8hrs a night, plus additional 3-4, which is amazing! We also went to the Zoo on Wednesday the 2nd, and got to see a lot of animals including the elephants (mommy's favorites!) She'll be 3 months old tomorrow so I'll post some more pictures, and what we did for the day!
Thanks for reading, Anita!
